The Laila Peak Expedition offers a remarkable opportunity for avid climbers to tackle a challenging 6000-meter peak nestled in the heart of the Karakoram range. Laila Peak, often referred to as the “Queen of Karakoram,” stands as one of the most breathtaking peaks globally, known for its stunning beauty. Situated between the Dalsangpa and Khuspang camps in the Hushe Valley of the Karakoram range, this distinctively needle-like summit soars to an elevation of 6096 meters.

Laila Peak Expedition
The journey to conquer Laila Peak embarks from Islamabad, where we commence our expedition. From there, we fly to Skardu, the principal town in the Karakoram region. Following several days in Skardu to prepare, we embark on a drive to the Hushe Valley, and the subsequent two days are spent trekking to the base camp of Laila Peak. For experienced mountaineers, ascending Laila Peak typically takes less than a week. The expedition primarily commences from the west face of the peak, originating from the Gondogoro glacier.

Climbing Info
Laila Peak’s western face is steep, with slopes that are as steep as 45 to 50 degrees and stretch over 1500 meters vertically. This makes it a popular choice for climbing expeditions. The lower part of the peak is covered in soft snow, while the upper section has a thin layer of ice, which means climbers have to deal with a mix of ice and rock as they ascend.
Reaching the summit of Laila Peak offers you a spectacular view of the major peaks in the Karakoram range, including famous ones like K-2, Broad Peak, and various Gasherbrum peaks. It’s a rewarding experience for any mountaineer.
If you need to get acclimated to the altitude, you can also consider climbing the nearby Gondogoro Peak, which is at a lower elevation of 5650 meters. This can help you prepare for the challenges of Laila Peak.

Altitude – Laila Peak(6,096 m)
The altitude of Laila Peak has been a subject of debate, with varying estimates offered by different sources. While some assert that it stands at 6200 meters, others contend that its height reaches 6614 meters. The initial British ascent team credited it as 6614 meters, whereas an Italian team views it as 6200 meters. In a Japanese mountaineering map by Tsuneo Miyamori published in 2003, Laila Peak is recorded at 6096 meters, a measurement supported by more recent climbers. This discrepancy highlights the ongoing discussion surrounding the precise elevation of this striking peak.
Climbing Permit
Climbing and trekking in Pakistan require the necessary permits. Peaks above 6500 meters demand a climbing permit, while those below 6500 meters need a trekking permit. All mountains in the Central Karakoram National Park area (CKNP) require a trekking permit. We handle the permit process, including fees, rules, and regulations.
Royalty fees
Royalty fees, established annually, vary based on the mountain and the climbing season. We can apply for permits 4-6 weeks before your Pakistan arrival. Royalty fees are non-refundable and payable to the Gilgit-Baltistan council.
Government clearance
Government clearance for your expedition team is vital, so it’s best to submit team member details early, ideally at least three months in advance, as clearance times have been extending in recent years.
