Trango Tower Expedition
The Trango Group in the Baltoro region of Pakistan is a popular destination for rock climbers due to its stunning views and challenging climbs. It offers a unique opportunity to scale one of the toughest granite walls in the world amidst the rugged Karakoram mountains.
The Trango Group, located at the beginning of the Baltoro Glacier, is home to the world’s highest vertical wall. It consists of the Trango Towers, which are the largest vertical cliffs and present one of the most difficult rock climbing challenges. These granite towers are situated in the Baltoro Muztagh, a sub-range of the Karakoram mountains.
Trango Towers are a paradise for rock climbers worldwide, and they mark the starting point of the famous K2 trek. Climbing the Trango Towers is exceptionally demanding due to the combination of high altitude, steep terrain, and technical climbing requirements.
There are two main spires in the Trango Towers. The highest one, known as “The Great Trango,” reaches an altitude of 6,286 meters. The left spire is called the “Trango Nameless Tower” and stands at an altitude of 6,239 meters. The Trango Nameless Tower is a remarkable 1,000 meters high from the ridge.
A Trango Tower Expedition typically lasts for 30 to 35 days and can be organized for both spires of the Trango Towers.
The Trango Towers group has witnessed some of the most challenging and remarkable climbs in history. These achievements are attributed to the unique blend of high altitude, the immense vertical height of the routes, and the steep nature of the rock faces. Every route poses highly technical climbing challenges.

Climbing History
In 1976, British climber Joe Brown, along with Mo Anthoine, Martin Boysen, and Malcolm Howells, accomplished the first ascent of Trango (Nameless) Tower. This tower offers at least eight different routes to reach the summit.
In 1987, the second and third ascents were achieved with the opening of two new routes: the Yugoslav Route on the south-southeast face by Slavko Cankar, Franc Knez, and Bojan Šrot, and the Great Overhanging Dihedral Route on the western pillar by the Swiss/French team of Michel Fauquet, Patrick Delale, Michel Piola, and Stephane Schaffter.
In 1988, the Yugoslav Route was freed by the German team Kurt Albert, Wolfgang Güllich, and Hartmut Münchenbach, marking a significant milestone.
Another notable route, named Eternal Flame after a Bangles song, was first climbed in 1989 by Kurt Albert, Wolfgang Güllich, Milan Sykora, and Christoph Stiegler. This route, which ascends the South-East Face, was mostly climbed in a free style, ushering in a new era of high-altitude rock climbing.
Catherine Destivelle achieved the first female ascent of the Yugoslav Route in 1990 in free climbing style, with Jeff Lowe and David Breashears documenting the climb.
In the summer of 2009, Franz Hinterbrandner, Mario Walder, and Alexander and Thomas Huber accomplished the first free ascent of Eternal Flame.

Expedition Cargo & Climbing Gear:
We handle the necessary paperwork and storage for your expedition gear. Any clearance fees during import or export are your responsibility. Duty-free entry applies to non-consumable equipment that you take back with you.
Climbing Gear Rental:
We offer well-maintained climbing gear for rent, including various types of climbing ropes and gas canisters.
Base Camp Staff:
Our base camp team, including cooks and assistants, ensures your well-being during the Trango Tower expedition. The staff quantity depends on the group size, typically one head-cook and assistants. High altitude porters can be arranged upon advance request.
Cancellation:
If you need to cancel or postpone your expedition, the climbing permit fee is non-refundable and cannot be carried forward. Refunds for our services are subject to our Terms & Conditions, and government permit refunds depend on their policies.
